Structure of a Diamond Diamonds are the hardest substance known to man. They are solid carbon.

A common misconception is that all diamonds are used in jewelry. In fact, only a small portion of diamonds mined and created are used for jewelry. Most are used in creating Diamond saws and other cutting tools.

Structure of Graphite Graphite is used in pencils and as lubricants. Graphite gets this ability from the horizontal layers that are loosely held together by van der Waal forces.
