Carbon often forms with two oxygen atoms to form CO2. This form is often contributed to the destruction of the ozone layer. Manufacturing uses oil and natural gas to create energy. Oil is made from decomposed plants and other organic material. These are rich in carbon. Natural gas is made up of one carbon atom surrounded by four hydrogen atoms.

Carbon in the form of coal was used for warmth before we used natural gas, and coal continues to be used to make everybody’s favorite bar-b-que. Radio Carbon Dating is used to date artifacts that are really old. It is based on the fact that carbon-14 decays at a steady rate.
