COMPUTER Sciences at All Saints Middle School

Fifth and Sixth Grade students use Windows operating system in a fully networked lab and employ a variety of input devices such as mouse, keyboard, disk drive, ISDN connection to the Internet, scanner, and CD ROM. A variety of data types are employed including graphics, audio, and video. Students learn to format communication and deliver communication to monitor display, printed copy, or network. Emphasis is placed on the importance of complying with copyright laws governing computer hacking, piracy, and invasion of privacy. Interdisciplinary projects allow students the opportunity to apply their computer skills to major assignments in a broad curriculum range.

Seventh, Eighth, and Ninth Grade students also use the networked Windows lab. Students learn to make informed decisions by using technology to access, analyze, and evaluate information. Technology is used as a tool to acquire, to synthesize, and to solve problems, and to then evaluate the results. Students integrate the use of different file formats, of on-line communications, of technology applications, and of productivity tools to create output that includes reports, newsletters, brochures, posters, slide shows, and multimedia presentations. Interdisciplinary projects are used to provide a relevant basis for these exercises. Ninth Grade students receive high school computer credit for the course Business Computer Information Systems I.
